The comparison series / Website platforms
Webflow vs Wix vs WordPress
Choose the platform your team can actually run.
For a design-led marketing website, shortlist Webflow. For an owner-operated site with integrated business tools, consider Wix. For hosting freedom and extensive customization, evaluate WordPress. The right choice depends on your content model, integrations and who maintains the site.
WordPress here means self-hosted WordPress.org. Wix Editor and Wix Studio offer different design workflows. We compare practical business requirements, not every plan or add-on.

| What matters | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Best fit | B2B marketing teams that need precise layouts and reusable CMS templates. | Small businesses wanting a managed website with built-in business apps. | Content-heavy or customized sites with a technical maintenance owner. |
| Main advantages | Visual design control; structured CMS; managed hosting; reusable components. | Managed hosting; integrated bookings and commerce options; guided site setup. | Open-source software; choice of hosts; extensive themes, plugins and custom development. |
| Main trade-offs | Learning curve; plan limits; CMS-backed functionality does not travel with a static code export. | Platform dependence; capabilities differ between editors and plans; moving away usually requires rebuilding. | Hosting, backups, updates and plugin compatibility need ongoing ownership. |
| Design & publishing | Useful when designers build a repeatable component system for editors. | Editor suits guided building; Studio provides a more advanced responsive design workflow. | Block editor and themes; page builders add flexibility but also another dependency. |
| Content & integrations | Collections suit reusable content types. Validate relationships and item limits against your real content model. | CMS and business apps suit many common requirements; check the exact integration and data limits. | Custom post types and plugins support varied models. Plugin selection affects editorial and maintenance complexity. |
| SEO & performance | Technical controls are available; implementation quality, content and scripts still determine results. | SEO tools are available. A platform switch alone is not an SEO strategy. | Flexible SEO tooling; themes, plugins and hosting can improve or undermine performance. |
| Cost to budget | Site hosting, relevant Workspace features, add-ons and build/support time. | Site plan, paid apps, relevant business features and design/support time. | Hosting, domain, premium plugins or themes, development and maintenance. |
| Portability & ownership | Code export requires an eligible Workspace plan; it does not include a working Webflow CMS or form backend. | Wix sites depend on Wix hosting; owning the content is different from exporting a working site. | You control files and database; migration still needs URL, media, plugin and environment testing. |
| Before you commit | Prototype the hardest CMS template and test the editor handover. | Test your required booking, CRM and content flows in the chosen editor. | Audit required plugins, update responsibility and recovery from a failed deployment. |

Example: a 60-page B2B website
Map the service pages, case studies, resource templates and lead forms before choosing a platform. Build one representative CMS page and connect one form to the CRM. Ask the marketing team to update it without a developer. Compare the editing experience, integration gaps and annual operating cost—not just the homepage design.
Turn the decision into a working system.

Questions before you choose
Which platform is best for SEO?
None guarantees rankings. Compare crawlability, content quality, redirects, metadata, performance and editorial workflow. Choose the platform your team can implement and maintain well.
Is WordPress free?
The WordPress.org software is free and open source. Running a business website still involves hosting, a domain, maintenance and potentially paid themes, plugins or development.
Can I move from Wix or WordPress to Webflow?
Yes, but treat it as a migration project. Inventory content, rebuild templates, map URLs, test redirects and reconnect forms. Wix does not provide a portable version of its hosted site.
When would you recommend staying on the current platform?
When the existing platform meets your content and integration needs and the problems are fixable. A focused redesign or technical cleanup may be a better use of budget than a full migration.
