The comparison series / AI assistants
ChatGPT vs Claude vs Grok
Choose an assistant around the work, not the hype.
Shortlist ChatGPT for a broad mix of research, files and creation tools; Claude for document-centered collaboration and development workflows; and Grok when web and X research is central. These are starting points for testing—not a claim that one assistant is always more accurate.
These are AI products powered by changing model families. We compare business workflows, not fixed model benchmarks. Features depend on plan, region, rollout and administrator settings.

| What matters | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Best fit to evaluate | Teams combining writing, file analysis, web research and visual creation. | Teams working through documents, project context and coding tasks. | Teams researching current web information and conversation on X. |
| Main advantages | Projects, web search, files, image tools and connected apps bring different tasks into one workspace. | Projects, document context, research and coding workflows can support iterative work. | Web and X search, file uploads, voice and image/video creation support varied tasks. |
| Main trade-offs | Broad tool coverage can require setup; usage and access vary. Outputs still need review. | Long or tool-heavy work can use allowances quickly. Research and team controls depend on the plan. | Live sources can be noisy. Test coverage, citation quality and the exact connectors your team needs. |
| Research & evidence | Use web search and inspect cited sources; separate sourced facts from generated recommendations. | Research explores multiple sources and connected context where enabled; validate the citations. | Useful to test for timely web/X context; distinguish primary evidence from social commentary. |
| Documents & knowledge | Organize work with projects and files. Check what context is available to each task. | Use project knowledge and instructions for recurring work; confirm sharing and retrieval behavior. | Upload supported files and use available connectors; verify document retrieval on your own corpus. |
| Coding & workflows | Test code generation and connected workflows using a real brief and acceptance tests. | Evaluate Claude's coding tools on your codebase, including review and handover effort. | Evaluate coding output against the same tests; product access and API features are separate questions. |
| Governance & data | Check workspace controls, connector permissions, retention and your chosen plan's data terms. | Check organization settings, permissions and data terms before connecting company knowledge. | Check Business/Enterprise controls and connector access against company requirements. |
| Cost to budget | Seats, usage allowances and any separately billed API or third-party tool consumption. | Seats, usage tier and any separately billed API or connected-tool consumption. | Subscription tier, usage allowances and any separately billed API consumption. |
| Before you commit | Run the same research, document and workflow tasks used for the other two products. | Measure factual errors, editing time and tool reliability on those same tasks. | Score evidence quality and business-task completion, not personality or a single impressive answer. |

Example: evaluate an AI lead-triage workflow
Give each candidate the same anonymized set of 20 enquiries and a written routing policy. Request a category, a confidence level and a supporting quotation from each enquiry. Measure routing errors and unsupported claims. Then test how the result is validated before reaching the CRM. This is a proposed evaluation method, not a benchmark result.
Turn the decision into a working system.

Questions before you choose
Which assistant is most accurate?
There is no universal answer across tasks, models and tools. Use the same representative questions and source material, score factual accuracy, and repeat the test when the model or workflow changes.
Does a chat subscription include my website's API usage?
Do not assume that it does. Chat plans, API billing and any bundled credits have distinct terms. Verify the current entitlement for the exact account and deployment you intend to use.
Can I connect these tools to my CRM?
Potentially, through supported connectors, an automation platform or custom API work. Check permissions, supported actions, rate limits and auditability. A chat feature does not automatically provide a production integration.
Can AI publish content or update leads automatically?
It can be part of that workflow, but first define validation, retry behavior and review requirements. Begin with drafts or suggestions, then automate only the actions that pass your acceptance tests.
